Welcome to Interact: Contemporary craft in a digital future, a Craft Australia online forum. Interact commenced in June 2004 and has generated interesting discussion on a wide range of topics. It has become a useful communication point and resource on Australian contemporary craft.

Craft Australia will keep Interact online to serve as a research resource for craftspeople, professionals working in contemporary craft, collectors, students and craft audiences.

Visit the Interact discussion papers to access the eight articles written by craftspeople and writers that address topical issues for contemporary crafts practice. Each paper is connected to a forum where you can read contributions on the issues raised in the paper and add your own comments.

A summary of the range of discussions to date presents an engaging range of views. Some examples include:

  • The issues faced by practitioners in regional areas and their capacity to access training and education
  • How emerging craftspeople establish themselves on completion of training
  • The branding of contemporary craft practice and the possibilities for expanding contemporary craft audiences
  • The relationship between craft and digital technologies
  • What's in a name, how craft is identified and defined
  • Contemporary craft in relation to design and manufacture
  • The future of education and skills development for craftspeople
