British Council Australia, Object and Sydney Festival 2005 present...

Image of work by Emma VargalowTwo cross cultural design exhibitions considering ideas of "exchange and influence", in two iconic design venues.

Import Export is an exhibition of exciting new work by 12 exceptional British designers presented by Object at the Sydney Opera House.

Global Local at Object Gallery is a similarly diverse range of work by 12 leading local designers demonstrating the increasing international confidence of Australian design.

Both exhibitions feature work as diverse as furniture, fashion, jewellery, ceramics and product design.

Import Export explores the influx and outflow of ideas from around the world that have revitalised British design over the last decade. Cultural diversity and the increasing mobility of contemporary designers have equally enriched Australian design as showcased in Global Local. The designers in both exhibitions are from diverse countries of origin or highly influenced by their cultural heritage.

Exhibitors in Import Export include the celebrated Dutch-born designer Tord Boontje, furniture and product design groups Azumi and El Ultimo Grito and the fashion design duo Eley Kishimoto.

Global Local features furniture by Edward Wong, Johan Larson and Berto Pandolfo, jewellery by Joung Mee Do and Vicki Mason and innovative products by Frank Le Petit and Simon Lloyd.
