The past month has been a busy period of activity for Craft Australia with triennial applications for ongoing funding, advocating on behalf of the sector and the excitement of promoting new work and great exhibitions.
Craft Australia board of directors and staff have been busy configuring the next exciting chapter of Craft Australia's growth and advancement with the development of the triennial application to the Australia Council.
The Federal Government has continued the increased funds to the visual arts crafts sector through the Visual Arts and Craft Strategy (VACS) funding, so all funded organisations are looking to the next four years as an opportunity for consolidation.
The General Manager attended a recent meeting of ArtsPeak, hosted by the Australia Council. This meeting was an opportunity to meet with Kathy Keele, the CEO of the Australia Council and establish a process for ArtsPeak to work in collaboration with the Australia Council to lobby for the Australian arts and cultural industries.
Craft Australia represents the craft and design sector at these meetings, that will be occurring on a regular basis.

Craft Australia attended the craft curators meeting in Darwin to coincide with the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award at the Museum and Gallery in the Northern Territory.
The Communication Manger represented Craft Australia at this event and also met with gallery directors and artists working in contemporary Indigenous craft·design.
The August issue of 716 craft·design presented a national overview of the Indigenous craft sector.
Craft Australia board member Gilbert Riedelbauch was awarded the Carrick Australian Award for University Teaching for his outstanding contribution to student learning and his creative and stimulating induction of first-year visual art students into the professional use of new digital technologies.

Good news for those who have not yet caught Smart works at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney, the exhibition has been extended till November. And if you could not make it to the opening week symposium, all the presentations are now available online.

Apples, oranges and your grandmother's lemon squeezer
Evelyn Dunstan from New Zealand was the 2007 winner for her entry Ngahere Karauna (Forest Crown). This show is beautifully showcased in the repurposed industrial architecture of the Canberra Glassworks gallery. The exhibition will tour to NSW and Queensland. View 2007 Ranamok finalists
Congratulations to glass artist Itzell Tazzyman for her winning entry, Revealing our First Nature (Transcendence) II in the City of Hobart Art Prize.
Congratulations also to Alice Springs artist Pip McManus as the inaugural recipient of the Declan Apuatimi/J Bird Public Art Fellowship.

An important new partnership has been forged between the peak bodies, Australia Business Arts Foundation (AbaF) and the National Association for the Visual Arts (NAVA) to develop a website to assist visual artists with professional and business skills. Announcement
The inaugural Canberra Living Artists week hit the streets of Canberra to warm the dying gasps of the winter chill. Developed by Canberra Arts Marketing, CAM, to highlight the vibrant arts scene in the ACT, the event drew huge crowds, great events, thundering acclaim and will become an annual feature art even in Canberra.
